On the 19th November, and following on from the successful demo of our new rich text editor at the SpotOn conference in London, writeLaTeX founder Dr John Hammersley gave a four minute pitch at The Guardian's Activate New York Tech Talent day.

John described how writeLaTeX is changing the face of scientific writing, collaboration and publishing, and how this benefits not just science but society as a whole, through the innovations and technological developments that the scientific discoveries lead on to.

Most of the world's technical and medical innovations begin with a scientific paper, and the faster science moves, the faster the world moves. Society increasingly looks to science for solutions to today’s most pressing social challenges; if we’re going to face up to complex health issues, an ageing population, digital transformation and climate change, we need science that is faster, more open, more trustworthy, and more meaningful to citizens.

We helping to make this happen by bringing the whole scientific process into the cloud, from idea to writing to review to publication. We're excited to be working with open access publishers across disciplines to create a complete cloud-based approach to scientific publishing, and stay tuned for much more to come in 2014.
