Helping you and your team work from home

As much of the world continues in lockdown, we wanted to update you all on what we’re doing to help you work from home during the global Coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the free account upgrade we announced last month, we’ve started to host a series of webinars on a range of topics. You can find out more about both of these initiatives in this blog post and a bit more on the webinars below.

Case Study: Overleaf Helps Vialab with their Academic Collaboration at Ontario Tech and Beyond

Overleaf was chosen by Ontario Tech’s Information Visualization Lab (Vialab) for it’s wide-ranging functionality, including real-time collaboration and the ability to produce beautifully typeset documents.

Christopher Collins, Associate Professor, and Canada Research Chair in Linguistic Information Visualization said:

Overleaf is indispensable for us. We use it all the time, and we’ve found it makes life so much easier. We use it in our research, thesis writing, project proposals, and manuscripts for publication. When it comes to writing, it’s our main tool.

    Customer Appreciation

It’s great to constantly see more and more organizations support their members through institutions or group accounts - which are easy to set up and manage.

We now have over 80 institutional customers with Overleaf Commons, our cloud-based site licence, plus many more smaller group accounts in university departments and labs around the world.

We’ve also seen a growing use of Overleaf in commercial organisations and nonprofits. With both our cloud-based subscription options and our ability to host data on local servers via our on-premise solution, we continue to see new teams signing up for Overleaf Enterprise solutions.

    We’re delighted to welcome:

    New Webinar Program

We’re pleased to announce our new program of webinars ranging from intro’s to Overleaf, to best practice tips on effective collaboration, to dashboard maintenance. We’ve already had over 500 people attend our first 4 webinars and over the coming months we’re going to be developing more webinars - so if you have a topic you’d love to see us cover - please let us know either via our contact us form, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.

You can view the full schedule of webinars here, and also catch up on our previous webinars on demand at a time to suit you!

Why I chose LaTeX over the usual Word processing software

And finally...If you've got 3 minutes (go and grab a cup of coffee or tea) we'd highly recommend this interesting write up by Shelly Hermia Bhujun-Sookun where she talks about her decision process over how and why she choose to use LaTeX (on Overleaf) over Word for her university work. Shelly gives a brief comparison between Word and LaTeX, how she uses Overleaf (and why), and a walk-through of the Word toolbar - showcasing it's comparable LaTeX commands. Plus there's a picture of Winnie the Pooh!
